Huna Totem Corporation/Whittier Terminal
Founded in 1973, under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, Huna Totem Corporation represents more than 1,650 Alaska Native shareholders with Indigenous ties to the community of Hoonah and Glacier Bay. Among its guiding principles, Huna Totem works to provide economic opportunity for its people, perpetuate the Huna Tlingit culture, and maintain its land in perpetuity.
After 20 years in the visitor industry, Huna Totem is broadening its mission to help Indigenous and rural communities in Alaska and beyond to develop destinations that deliver authentic experiences to travelers while providing economic empowerment and cultural pride to the community’s people. For Huna Totem, this isn’t just business. It’s about bringing people home to communities that are alive with job opportunities, Native languages, arts, and subsistence lifestyles.
The newly opened Whittier Terminal, soft-launched in September 2024, is transforming Southcentral Alaska’s visitor experience. Located just 60 miles from Anchorage, this Huna Totem-led facility positions Whittier as a key port destination, offering guests a convenient gateway to explore the region’s breathtaking landscapes and attractions. Highlights include tours to Portage Glacier, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and scenic drives along the iconic Seward Highway.
Designed with modern appeal, the terminal features a double-berth floating pier accommodating two post-Panamax ships simultaneously, a multi-use terminal, and ample parking. These enhancements make Whittier an ideal choice for ship turnarounds while expanding excursion opportunities for visitors. With its strategic location and upgraded facilities, the Whittier Terminal is poised to elevate the visitor experience in Alaska.
